The solo puppet is a wonderful being, a foil to the light, a focus for nuance, a model of mechanical chicanery. Yet, some would argue, that the puppet’s finest moments require a partner. For it is with the interactive puppet and the space between them that the stage stretches, bolts, spins, and expands. And it is in this space that the meanings of words and ideas are played out between puppets. Always in puppetry, as in painting, dance, and literature, it is the space that speaks to us.
